The Blackwater Baptist Association of Virginia and it’s member churches
have a rich history of partnering together to do God’s work
in Virginia, the United States, and the World.
Disaster Relief and Recovery
We have been assisting in Disaster Relief and Recovery beginning in 1990 through April 2014 with a total of $507,544 in gifts and donations to assist our teams ministering to families impacted by hurricanes, floods, the Attack on America, tornadoes, supporting feeding units, purchasing and equipping a Missions/Disaster Trailer, a Shower/Water Purification Trailer, and a Disaster Relief Tow Van.
We assisted with recovery after the following Hurricanes: Hugo, Andrew, Floyd, Katrina, Rita, Sandy; as well as after flooding in the Midwest, Kentucky, Virginia, and West Virginia; and New York/New Jersey; and tornado and severe storm relief in Suffolk, Isle of Wight, Pulaski, St. Stephen’s Church, and other areas of Virginia, North Carolina, and West Virginia.
Chaplain Service of the Churches of Virginia, Inc.
We partnered with the Chaplain Service of the Churches of Virginia, Incorporated, from 1985 through June 2010 with financial gifts totaling $200,851. These gifts have assisted with the support of the salaries of the chaplains that have served in the local prison at the Southampton Correctional Complex. We also had a unique relationship with this complex by having several of our pastors become these chaplains. We have also had many lay volunteers that had a heart for this ministry and provided Bible study for the individuals in the facility.
Currently, we have volunteers assisting with Bible studies at Deerfield Correctional Center. We have also assisted with purchasing Bibles and materials for these classes in the amount of $50,892.
Baptist General Association of Virginia
We also partner with the Baptist General Association of Virginia and other organizations to send our volunteers to answer God’s calling to missions. We have sent teams to the New England states, North & South Dakota, Tanzania, Romania, Honduras, Africa, Brazil, India, the Ukraine, the Philippines, Italy, Germany, Moldova, Costa Rica, Mexico and Haiti.
We have also partnered with Liberia and South Africa with special projects of food, seeds, computers, assisting AIDS orphans, as well as financing a church planter in the Free State of South Africa. These projects have been accomplished with gifts totaling $55,254.
